Most women's relationship with bras is very decidedly love-hate. On one hand they can be expensive and uncomfortable, but on the other hand the can provided wanted support and be super cute and flattering. Whether or not you like them almost all women wear one every day, and there's a decent chance that yours doesn't fit correctly. Here are 13 ways to tell if your bra doesn't fit right and a couple ways to try to remedy that.
The Band Is Riding Up
This is a super common occurrence and is usually caused by one of two things. The first option is that you are wearing your straps too tight which pulls the back up because the front is held down by your breasts. The second is that you may be wearing your band on too tight of a hook, if that's the case you just need to let it out to the next set.
Breasts Falling Out The Bottom
Maybe even more uncomfortable than a too tight band is a too loose one. You will know that your band is too loose if your breasts slip out the bottom of your bra. This is really uncomfortable because it can pinch your boobs if you move the wrong way. If you notice your slipping out the bottom of your bra try tightening the band if possible or going down a bra size.
Straps Keep Falling Off
There's not much more annoying than constantly having to re-adjust your bra straps because they're slipping down. And when this happens the one purpose a bra has, to hold your boobs up, is no longer happening because the straps are what holds the bra up. Try tightening your straps or going down a cup size.
The opposite of having your straps always slipping off, having straps that are too tight can cause the skin around the band next to your armpit to bulge out a bit. If this is the case then all you need to do is loosen the straps! If loosening the straps makes the cup stick out a bit then you need a smaller cup size.
A Gap In The Back Band
Your bra is supposed to fit comfortably snugly so if there is a big gap in between the band and your back it is probably time for you to drop down a band size so that you are getting the support that you need. A well fitting bra band should allow for 2 fingers to fit under it, but no more.
You're Not Feeling The Support
The main point of a bra is to keep your breasts supported, right? Running around all day without support can be annoying and even painful sometimes so if you are wearing a bra but still not feeling the support it is time to let that baby go and get one where you feel like you are getting enough coverage.
The Cups Are Over Filled
If you can see that your boobs have a second bulge right above the edge of your bra when you look at yourself in the mirror from the side then you are overfilling the cup. If this is the case then it is time for you to go up a cup size, or possibly even two.
One particularly awkward bra related wardrobe malfunction is the accidental nipple slip, or as it is more commonly referred to.. A nip slip. These happen more than most ladies would like and almost every female celeb out there has at least one nip slip incident. If this is happening to you then consider going for a different more full coverage style of bra.
The Cups Shape Has Warped
Like almost any product with time the quality of a bra starts to go downhill. With bras the biggest indicator is usually a warped cup shape in the bras that have a molded cup, when they are warped it can make your breasts look lumpy. To avoid this for as long as possible avoid over wearing a bra or putting it through the washing machine and dryer.
Cups Are Wrinkling Or Sagging
Even if you have found one perfect bra that doesn't mean that things will last forever. Over time and with lots of wearing even the best of bras will start to fit differently. One way to know if this is the case is if the cups appear baggy or wrinkled, if so then sorry to say but it is time for a new one.
Space Between Cup And Breast
If you have space between the top of your breast and your bra then it is time to consider going down a cup size. When you have that space it means your bra is too large or that you are wearing the wrong shape of bra if your breasts are more full at the top then a demi cup might be a better shape than full coverage.
Straps Digging Into Shoulders
If you have large breasts than your bra doesn't always have the easiest job in the world. However, no matter how big your boobs are your bra should not be digging into you and leaving marks. In this situation the answer is to be refitted for a better cup size that will allow the band to carry some of the load instead of the straps.
You're Not Comfortable
The bottom line is that bras are there to make our lives easier and if they aren't it's time to get a new one, from pinching to too loose it is all less than ideal and it is worth it to not just try and 'deal with it' but rather go find one that does fit perfectly which usually means going to a more high end bra store.
Go Get Fitted
If one of these 13 things has sounded like your current bra situation and you aren't sure where to start to fix it, the simple answer is ask a professional! The people who work in lingerie stores are trained in how to measure and judge shape to find you the perfect fit, so don't waste your time trying to do it by yourself.
Special Order A Bra If Needed
For some women with more unusual bra sizes it can be hard to find a bra that fits them in stores, and they will instead settle for the closest size carried where they are. If this is you then don't do it anymore! There are tons of websites out there that deliver more specialty sizes and it's worth the wait. Happy shopping!
