Emotions such as anxiety & worry are normal during pregnancy.

As you prepare yourself for one of life’s biggest changes, it can seem like a roller coaster of different feelings.

One of the many worries for parents to be, is that they may not be able to cope or that their child may have a condition which could restrict them in life.

Pregnancy itself can pose a risk to the lives of the mother and possibly the children in certain cases.

One of the most complicated pregnancies you can have is multiple babies, especially when conjoined.

This story one of only two cases in the world of conjoined twin sisters Macy, Mackenzie and Madeline.

Their mother gave birth to triplets, where two of the babies were conjoined twins. connected to each other.

This condition alone is extremely rare and affects only one in every 200,000 live births.

Mackenzie, Macey & Madeline’s biological mother, unfortunately decided that she could not care for her three beautiful girls.

Thankfully, Darla and Jeff Garrison a couple from Iowa, U.S, recognized the urgency for the girls to find a loving home and decided to foster them.

The couple were delighted with the new additions to their large family, who already had three biological sons of their own.

Macey and Mackenzie the conjoined twins, were in a lot of pain and just weeks following their birth, surgeons began the painstaking operations to separate the girls.

Mackenzie came home after six weeks, where Macey followed a month later.

The adoption process was well underway.

Darla remarks ” We’d fallen in love with them, our boys were so happy to have three sisters”

As you can see from the photo below both Macey & Mackenzie recovered well.

They each have one leg since they were born sharing a third useless leg.

All papers were completed two years after the surgery, and Darla and Jeff finally got to officially adopt all three girls.

They all attend the same school today, where they have many friends and particularly enjoy sports and art.

The sisters have regular physiotherapy to help them walk on the prosthetic leg, they’ve even got  their own horse.

The girls were so lucky to find such a wonderful family that love them so much.

I’m sure their brothers appreciate the company too.

The girls live a normal happy childhood despite their physical limitations.

They do also enjoy the necessary support to ensure their comfort and safety.

We can see how beautiful they have grown up to be!

Darla comments “We had no idea what to expect – but they only needed someone who loved them.’

‘We got Madeline when she was four days old and Macey and Mackenzie came to us after four weeks.” she adds.

The girls who were born weighing 2lbs 20z each in December 2002 have come a long way after their surgery.

Like all teens the girls now 16 have so much love and enthusiasm for life.
